It’s December 1st and 24ways.org is up and running with a GREAT new design. Lots of talk on twitter, etc… about it and personally, I LOVE it! Tim van Damme is behind the re-design and it’s a fresh new look to start this 2008 season of awesome posts.

The Design

Far from the very minimalistic design of the past 3 years, this design shows what power CSS has. It’s original as in you won’t see another design remotly close to it. Notice the background as you scroll! WOW! The navigation is very cool and different in the way that the background extends all the way down. My only thing is the colors … not my favorite colors but who cares when you’ve been staring at the site for 5 minutes and you’re still finding things you haven’t seen yet!

24WAYS

If you haven’t heard of 24WAYS yet then I suggest you head on over there and have a look.

24 ways is the advent calendar for web geeks. Each day throughout December we publish a daily dose of web design and development goodness to bring you all a little Christmas cheer.

Flip through the archives of the past 3 years to find some great articles. Drew McLellan start off this seasons’ post about the battles between designers and developers and who should do what and how much each should know of the site. A great read and a topic that’s been talked about quite a bit lately.

So head on over to 24ways.org to read the first of this seasons post and make it the first site you visit every morning.

I have to tell you, I’m not a fan. I looked at it this morning when EJS tweeted it and I can appreciate the complexity and originality of the CSS but the design just doesn’t do it for me.

@Dan – is the colors? It’s very different for sure and that’s why there is such a split decision amongst the readers of 24ways. I think maybe the choice of colors could be a factor. I really like the calendar (the numbers on the side)… VERY cool IMO.

  4. Thanks for having us, Karinne! We know the design isn’t for everybody. Our goal was to push things to their limits, and let people see what they could do with a couple of lines of CSS.

@Tim Van Damme – It’s a wonderful example of the power of CSS. Every time I find my way to 24ways.org, I find something new in the design that I hadn’t noticed earlier! I don’t think I can say this enough: I love it! :)
